Film Trailer Draft Feedback

Hello!

After creating a draft of the film trailer, we decided to ask 4 co-students to give in their feedback and opinions on our film trailer. The reason for choosing co-students to feedback is because they are part of our target audience. Through this, it will help us know what to improve on or change in order to create our desired product that will fulfil the liking of our target audience.

Day 4 of Filming

Hello!

The final scene is when the 'murderer' (Freddie) stands in the middle of the woods, holding a knife. One of our peers, Sam Lewis, helped us scout for the location and found a very suitable place down Reynolds Lane which perfectly captured the aura we were going for.

Day 3 of Filming

Hello!

On the third day of filming, we shot the classroom scene wherein the five main characters are introduced. There were some difficulties during the filming due to the audio and SD card of one of the cameras. However, in the end, the filming was presumed and went smoothly. Also, our media studies teacher took the role of the teacher since he is quite good at acting.

Below are the production schedule and snippet of the footage we filmed.

Day 2.2 of Filming

Hello!

After we filmed the protagonists' scene, Freddie (Sam Brown) and Zack (Connor Terry)'s was next. Tamryn actually suggested us to film a scene wherein the audience will question whether Zack has cheated on Anna Marie with Freddie and/or Freddie secretly has feelings for Zack, therefore, puzzling the minds of the audience to think whether Zack or Freddie killed Anna Marie to gain what they want.

Below are the production schedule and snippet of the footage we filmed.

Day 2 of Filming

Hello!

We filmed the next scene of the protagonist, Anna Marie (Tamryn Scott). The main locations for the scene are in the sixth form and north buildings and we will be filming Anna Marie running away from her murderer. It was a perfect weather for filming because it wasn't raining nor was it sunny, accurately capturing the mood of the scene.

Below are the production schedule and snippets of the footage we filmed.

Day 1 of Filming

Hello!

We started filming the scene of the intercom voice, Josh Chadwick. Since the main location for the whole film is in the sixth form building, we decided to use the lecture theatre to film this scene. This is because we could easily change the lighting in order to set the scene.

Below are the production schedule and snippet of the footage we filmed.

Feedback on Storyboard

Hello!

We have gathered 3 volunteers to react or give opinions on the storyboard. We made sure to ask students who took creative subjects for A Levels as we ensure that they could give us the best advice. Also, I took a different approach to the editing style to experiment with one of the software programs, iMovie, we will be using for the editing of our real film trailer.
There are a lot of positive points given in each feedback such as how we used the idea of having a mysterious at the end of the trailer to evoke curiosity and suspense as well as using fast cutting to introduce a climatic act into the trailer. The reason behind asking what they would think the rating will be is because we would like to see if the interviewee has guessed the right rating which is 15+, through the elements of mystery and confusion. One said 18 because the chilling content which we
understand why.

Overall, the feedback is positive and we will take this into account.

Storyboard

Hello!

As part of the planning process, it is a requirement to create a storyboard to help and guide us in the making of our film trailer. Below is the continuation the storyboard.

OPENING SCENE (Act 1)

Acts 2 and 3

Acts 4 and 5

As mentioned, this will help guide us in the making of our film trailer. We may or may not change the scenes throughout the filmmaking.

Feedback on Script

Hello!

Similar to the post on the feedback of our storyboard, we asked 3 people to give opinions on our script. These people are taking creative subjects for their A Levels such as Film Studies, ICT and Media/ Theatre Studies.
Overall, the feedback was positive, giving us a good amount of stick with and to work on. When it came to the last question, Emily and James suggested to include a scene which will shock the viewer and/or include the protagonist in the film trailer.

Film Exhibition (Part 2)

Hello!

After researching about film exhibition, I have gathered statistical data about the changes in cinema attendance, screening, age and gender profiles of the audience annually (starting from 2003). This research will help me with our chosen target audience.

Firstly is the cinema admissions in the UK and how it fluctuates over the years from 2003. According to the UK Cinema Association, the number of cinema admissions varied from an estimate of 160m to 170m from 2003 to 2016 with 2006 having the least amount of admissions. However, it has not exceeded (estimated) 170m and has not fallen below 160m showing the amount of admission has remained consistent.

Below is a bar chart from statista which shows the changing of age distribution cinema admissions from 2003. There is distinct clarity that young adults from 15-24 have dominated the cinema admission throughout the year especially in the year 2011. From 2003 to 2007, it shows a clear data that ages 45 and above would see the cinema, however, from 2008 onwards, it has been divided into 45-54-year-olds and 55 and above showing the various increasing of this age group. The age group of 7-14 stayed fairly constant with an increase in the year 2004 and 2009.

Lastly is the gender distribution in cinema admission (as of 2014). Similar to the age distribution, 15-24-year-olds dominated the cinema admission and within this 15% were female and 13% were male. Comparing the ratio of male to female in each age group shows that there is only a significant difference of 1-2% making females more than

Location Recce (Part 2)

Hello!

This is the second part of the location recce and here I will be talking about the locations we will not likely film for our film trailer.

1. This is the south building which looks like the perfect place to film trailer. However, we want our film trailer to focus on students our age which is mainly sixth formers, hence why we chose to focus on the sixth form building.

2. The car park would have been another great place to film our trailer, however, because the times of when we will be filming are mostly during the school hours until 5:00 p.m and the numerous cars around this area, it will be hard to set the atmosphere to match our genre.

3.  Although we have incorporated locations where stairs are available, we did not choose these two because (1st picture) it did not seem too eerie and (2nd picture) you could see a chunk of the north building which may deter the audience's attention.

Location Recce

Hello!

Part of our planning is to scout locations for our film trailer. Because my group has chosen to solely focus our film trailer at school, St Gregory's Catholic School, our location recce was straightforward to do.

1. This is the exterior of the sixth form centre and we chose this because it is great for an establishing shot at the beginning of the film trailer for the audience to recognise the prime location of the film trailer.
Alongside this point, we took this at a low angle to be able to evoke an empowering and intimidating aura and the eerie atmosphere, if filmed during dusk, will be able to entice the audience.

  2. These 3 images all share the same aspect of having leading lines which draws attention to the audience to the focal point of the image and it perfectly fits gives off a mysterious uncanny vibe fitting in with the genre of the film trailer.

3. Chiaroscuro is an effect caused by the contrast between light and shadow and we were looking for locations that would be able to match this description. The entrance of the north building hallway, wind tunnel, and south building lavatory evoke this enigmatic and perplexing representation.

4. Stairs are often used in mystery/ thriller films as a gateway for the plot to lead a character to the unknown. We have found various locations not only around the sixth form building but also around the courtyard and south building.

5. The balcony in the middle floor of the sixth form building is a great place to shoot any intense scene such as someone forcibly pushing another off the balcony or any heart-racing arguments.

6. These are miscellaneous locations where we could film scenes which involve a character running from someone or an establishing shot to introduce the beginning of the next scene.

7. Lastly is the gate outside the corner of the south building. Although it looks quite serene and peaceful during the day, when filmed at dusk it will be a sinister place to film the death of the main character or any flashbacks.
